Dev Sisters’ “Cookie Run: Kingdom” Opens “Paradise of Passion and Sloth” Special Exhibition at Seongsu Cafe

From the 13th to the 22nd, Devsisters will hold a special pop-up exhibition titled “Paradise of Passion and Indolence” at the Subjective Cafe in Seongsu, Seoul. This exhibition is part of an art collaboration project aimed at spreading awareness of traditional intangible heritage worldwide and expanding the narrative impact of the game “Cookie Run: Kingdom” beyond the game itself.

The pop-up exhibition collaborates with master artisans like Hwagak artisan Lee Jae-man and embroidery artisan Choi Jeong-in. The new characters “Vanguard: Holiberry Cookie” and “Eternal Sugar Cookie” from “Cookie Run: Kingdom” serve as themes for this display. Each cookie symbolizes “passion” and “indolence” respectively, offering different interpretations and adding interest for the viewers.

Hwagak artisan Lee Jae-man, recognized as holder of National Intangible Heritage No. 109, presents a wooden box crafted using the traditional Korean Hwagak technique, which involves decorating wooden items with drawings on polished ox horns. This piece symbolizes the passion and strength of the Vanguard: Holiberry Cookie, featuring vibrant colors and patterns that portray the cookie’s resolute commitment to protect their kingdom and its people.

Meanwhile, embroidery artisan Choi Jeong-in, designated as Seoul’s Intangible Heritage No. 12, reinterprets the concept of indolence through a traditional embroidered cushion that features the Eternal Sugar Cookie. Crafted using traditional bedding embroidery techniques, the artwork displays the cookie at the center, surrounded by colorful flowers, plants, and animals, creating a paradise of sweet relaxation.

In addition to the exhibition, there will be one-day workshops where visitors can experience traditional crafts with the artisans. On the 21st, participants can learn to make a sun catcher with Hwagak artisan Lee Jae-man, inspired by the Vanguard: Holiberry Cookie, and on the 22nd, they can create a handkerchief with embroidery artisan Choi Jeong-in, themed around the Eternal Sugar Cookie. Participation requires online reservation.

During the exhibition, the Subjective Cafe will offer desserts and drinks themed after the Vanguard: Holiberry Cookie and Eternal Sugar Cookie, along with limited edition goods. These include two types of desserts and drinks, and goods such as acrylic coasters featuring Hwagak artworks, silk printed scarves, pouches, keyrings, and fabric posters.
