From Off-road to Drift Experience… ‘First in Korea’ BMW 30th Anniversary Event

On June 5, at the BMW Driving Center in Yeongjongdo, Incheon, a professional instructor demonstrated a drift drive in the high-performance BMW M3, releasing white smoke as the rear wheels slipped. Despite the physical forces at play during direction changes, the M3 maintained its poise, thanks to its low center of gravity and robust design that prevents tilting. Even at a high speed of 210 km/h, the vehicle stayed firmly in control.

BMW, marking its 30 years since establishing its sales branch in Korea in 1995, hosted an anniversary festival from June 6 to 8. This event included experiences like the M Taxi, an off-road course with the X series, and exhibits summarizing BMW Korea’s history. The off-road course featured thrilling elements such as steep inclines and stairs. Notably, the X5 demonstrated its balance on a seesaw, a symbolic display of BMW’s “50:50 weight distribution,” impressing attendees.

Visitors also explored BMW Korea’s 30-year journey, from its market entry in July 1995, through its introduction of BMW Motorrad in 1999 and Mini in 2005, to becoming the leading import car brand in Korea. Despite the 1997 financial crisis, BMW Korea expanded its investments, achieving significant milestones like surpassing 10,000 units in cumulative sales by 2002 and 100,000 units by 2011, ultimately topping import car sales in recent years.

Additionally, BMW Korea unveiled the new hatchback models, the BMW 1 Series and 2 Series, showcasing their sharp headlights and sleek design. These models, which drew substantial attention, are scheduled for release later this year. Furthermore, the exclusive BMW Concept Skytop, limited to just 50 units globally, was also introduced, captivating the audience.
