Last month, the total revenue and number of moviegoers at theaters hit the lowest point since May 2022, right after the lifting of COVID-19 social distancing measures.
According to the “April Korean Film Industry Report” released by the Korean Film Council, last month’s total theater revenue was 51.2 billion won, and the number of moviegoers was 5.44 million.
Compared to the same period last year, revenue decreased by 43.1%, and the number of moviegoers dropped by 41.8%.
Focusing solely on Korean films, last month’s revenue was 36.1 billion won, and the number of moviegoers was 3.83 million, marking a significant decline of over 40% compared to the same period last year.
Although Korean films “Opposition” and “The Match” led the box office last month, this is interpreted as a result of a weaker performance compared to “The Outlaws 4” during the same period last year.
