Pope Leo XIV’s First Press Conference: “AI Should Be Used to Benefit Humanity”

Pope Leo XIV, in his first press conference, urged moving away from prejudice and anger through communication.

He also emphasized that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) should benefit all of humanity.

Pope Leo XIV held his first press conference four days after being elected. The key focus, as in his inaugural speech, was the importance of communication.

Quoting his predecessor, Pope Francis, he urged for the dispelling of prejudice, anger, fanaticism, and hatred through communication.

[Pope Leo XIV: “One of the crucial tasks today is to promote communication to escape the ‘Tower of Babel’.”]

He also stressed the necessity of not enforcing communication but being able to listen, particularly gathering the voices of the marginalized who cannot speak out.

Pope Leo XIV’s emphasis on not leaving the oppressed behind extended to the globally trending topic of artificial intelligence. He advised that AI should be used beneficially for all of humanity.

Pope Leo XIV highlighted the role of the press in peace and truth and called for the release of imprisoned journalists.

Meanwhile, President Zelensky of Ukraine disclosed his conversation with Pope Leo XIV and mentioned inviting him to visit Ukraine.

Earlier, at St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City, Pope Leo XIV presided over his first Resurrection Sunday Angelus and mentioned the situations in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip, appealing that there should be no more war.
