Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung stated, “The goal of this election is not an overwhelming victory but a definite win.”
Candidate Lee made this statement today (14th) during a meeting with reporters after paying tribute at the UN Memorial Park in Nam-gu, Busan. He mentioned, “Some may have an optimistic outlook, but we anticipate it will eventually be a close contest.”
He emphasized, “We are doing everything possible to win, even if it’s by just one vote.”
Lee urged, “Please secure three votes each with a desperate mindset,” and added, “This is an election that will decide the fate of the country, so please make sure to vote.”
When asked why he visited the challenging areas of TK and PK at the start of the campaign, Lee replied, “It’s not because they are challenging,” adding, “We are all citizens of South Korea.”
Lee explained, “We followed the traditional campaign route along the Gyeongbu Line.”
After visiting the UN Memorial Park, Lee paid his respects and visited the UN Forces Memorial Stone and the memorial hall.
In the guestbook, he wrote, “We will eternally remember the noble sacrifices for freedom and peace in a world we share.”
Meanwhile, Lee addressed questions about legislation related to abortion laws.
In response to a question about the six-year delay in revising abortion-related legislation following the Constitutional Court’s ruling of unconstitutionality, he stated, “Laws are a matter of social consensus,” and noted, “If it were an easy decision, legislation would have been enacted immediately after the Constitutional Court’s ruling.”
He emphasized, “The fact that legislation has not been enacted yet indicates that it is a very challenging subject to reach social consensus on,” and pledged to “carefully consider public opinion and strive to achieve social agreement.”
