The prosecution investigating the alleged involvement of former President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife in candidate nominations has officially notified Kim Keon-hee to appear for questioning this week. It appears that the summoning process has begun as significant testimonies and evidence have been secured through investigations of related individuals.
This is Baek Woon reporting.
The dedicated investigation team at the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office, focused on the allegations of nomination interference, has formally requested Kim Keon-hee, the wife of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, to appear as a suspect for questioning.
The prosecution reportedly requested her to appear at the prosecutor’s office on a specified day this week.
After taking over part of Mr. Myung’s case from the Changwon District Prosecutor’s Office last February, the investigation team repeatedly communicated the need for a face-to-face investigation with Kim’s side, and now has proceeded with the formal summoning process due to lack of scheduling agreement.
The prosecution has judged that they can no longer delay the investigation of Kim, a key figure in the case, as they have already collected testimonies and evidence related to the nomination interference allegations from surrounding individuals.
Kim is suspected of helping Kim Young-sun, a former People’s Power party member, get nominated in the Changwon Uichang constituency for a parliamentary by-election as a result of receiving free opinion poll services from Mr. Myung during the 2022 20th Presidential Election process.
If Kim complies with the summons, it will be her first appearance at the prosecution office for questioning.
Should Kim’s side not comply with the appearance request and fail to appear without just cause upon repeated summons, there is a possibility that the prosecution might resort to forceful measures such as an arrest warrant.
