The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 12th that it will set up counters for reporting comprehensive income tax and personal local income tax across each district to support simultaneous reporting of national and local taxes. Taxpayers with comprehensive income for the year 2024 must file and pay their comprehensive income tax and local income tax to the tax office and local government by the 2nd of the following month.
Regardless of their registered address or business location, taxpayers can report at any district office. The location of the reporting counters can be checked by accessing the Wetax website (www.wetax.go.kr) and looking up ‘reporting counter search.’ Taxpayers can choose the most convenient method to report their taxes, be it electronic, in-person, or by mail.
Business operators who receive the ‘pre-filled return’ for comprehensive income tax and personal local income tax sent by the National Tax Service via mobile or in writing need to verify the details in the return, report accordingly, and pay to the virtual account assigned, without additional reporting. Taxpayers who have completed their filing should pay by June 2.
Meanwhile, for those designated as special disaster areas, including export SMEs, victims and families of the Jeju Air passenger incident, and regions affected by forest fires, the Seoul Metropolitan Government will extend the deadline for paying personal local income tax by three months, until September 1.
Lee Hye-kyung, the director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Finance Bureau, stated, “To avoid unnecessary additional taxes, please report and pay your personal local income tax within the deadline. We anticipate a concentration of filings by the end of May, so we urge taxpayers to take advantage of electronic filing in advance.”
