Lee Jae-myung Leads with 46.6%… Surpasses Kim Moon-soo and Lee Jun-seok in Three-Way Race for Next Presidential Election

Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, and Kim Moon-soo, the People Power Party’s presidential candidate, are seen offering a respectful gesture at the Buddha’s Birthday Celebration Ceremony held at Jogyesa Temple in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 5th.

According to a poll released on the 5th, Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, maintains his lead with a mid-40% approval rating in a hypothetical three-way race for the upcoming presidential election.

In a survey conducted by Realmeter for the Energy Economy News from April 30th to May 2nd with 1,509 voters aged 18 and over nationwide (with a 95% confidence level and a margin of error of ±2.5 percentage points), candidate Lee Jae-myung led with 46.6% support in a three-way race against the People Power Party’s Kim Moon-soo and the Reform Party’s Lee Jun-seok. Candidate Kim Moon-soo recorded 27.8% and candidate Lee Jun-seok recorded 7.5%.

In other scenarios, including independent candidate Han Deok-soo, Lee Jae-myung also took the lead.

In the scenario of Lee Jae-myung (46.5%) vs. Han Deok-soo (34.3%) vs. Lee Jun-seok (5.9%), the gap remained clear.

However, Lee Jae-myung’s approval rating has slightly declined compared to the previous survey.

In the previous survey, which included Kim Moon-soo and Lee Jun-seok, Lee Jae-myung recorded 50.9% but fell by 4.3 percentage points in this survey. During the same period, Kim Moon-soo rose by 4.5 percentage points from 23.3% to 27.8%, narrowing the gap slightly. Lee Jun-seok’s support remained largely unchanged.

This survey was conducted before Kim Moon-soo was officially elected as the People Power Party’s presidential candidate (May 3rd), and during the survey period on May 2nd, Lee Jae-myung’s case of violating the Public Official Election Act was remanded by the Supreme Court’s full panel with a guilty verdict.

Regarding the outlook for government reestablishment, 51.5% of respondents preferred a “change in government by the opposition” while 42.8% preferred “an extension of the current government.” Undecided responses accounted for 5.6%.

Realmeter analyzed, “Public sentiment for a change in government fell by 5.3 percentage points compared to the previous survey, while the sentiment for government extension rose by 5.1 percentage points, narrowing the gap to a single digit (8.7 percentage points).”

In terms of party support, the Democratic Party recorded 42.1% and the People Power Party recorded 41.6%, showing a tight race within the margin of error.

The Democratic Party’s support fell by 4.7 percentage points from the previous week, while the People Power Party’s support rose by 7.0 percentage points, effectively eliminating the gap in support after six weeks.
