“Queen’s Space,” Gyeongbokgung Palace’s Gyotaejeon, to Open for Special Public Access Starting Next Month

The Gyeongbokgung Palace’s Gyotaejeon, the space where the queen lived during the Joseon Dynasty, will be temporarily opened to the public to mark the 30th anniversary of its restoration.

The Cultural Heritage Administration’s Royal Palaces and Tombs Headquarters announced that the interior will be specially opened from Wednesday to Friday every week, from the 8th of next month to June 27th.

It is known that in 1917, during the Japanese colonial period, materials from Gyotaejeon were dismantled and used to build Daeseojeon, the inner chamber of Changdeokgung Palace, after a major fire. Gyotaejeon was restored to its current form in 1995.

Viewing of the interior of Gyotaejeon can be booked starting from the 30th via the website of the Royal Palaces and Tombs Headquarters.
