[On Scene] Hong Jun-pyo’s Campaign Team Gains Seven Current Lawmakers… Na Kyung-won, Kim Gi-hyeon, Ju Ho-young Considered for Chief Election Campaign Manager

Hong Jun-pyo, a pre-candidate who advanced to the second primary of the People Power Party’s presidential campaign, is actively rallying support. Hong’s camp announced that 48 incumbent lawmakers, including Lee Chul-gyu from the pro-Yoon faction, have agreed to join the campaign. They are also seeking to recruit Na Kyung-won, who was eliminated in the first primary, as well as Kim Gi-hyeon and Ju Ho-young as chief campaign managers.

On April 23, Yu Sang-beom, a People Power Party member who was appointed as the head of the general operations division of the camp, held a press conference at the campaign office located in Daehwa Building to announce the new appointments to the election committee.

Yu stated, “So far, seven incumbent lawmakers have joined the camp, 13 have sent their aides to assist the campaign, and 28 others have expressed their support, totaling 48 lawmakers.” He also mentioned that “54 current district chiefs outside the National Assembly have already joined the campaign team.”

Hong Jun-pyo’s campaign team consists of:
– Yu Sang-beom, General Operations Director
– Ku Ja-geun, Political Director
– Lee In-seon, Women’s Director
– Kang Dae-sik, Defense and Security Director
– Baek Jong-heon, Health and Welfare Director
– Kim Wi-sang, Labor Director
– Kim Dae-sik, Candidate’s Secretary-General

During the Q&A session following the announcement, Yu addressed the anticipated question about Lee Chul-gyu’s involvement, confirming that “he has been working with the campaign from the beginning and is expected to play a similar policy and political strategy role as he did in Yoon Seok-yeol’s camp, this time serving as a chief coordinator.”

When asked whether having 48 incumbent lawmakers on board is more compared to other camps, Yu confidently stated that they believe it is.

For the position of chief campaign manager, they are considering figures like Na Kyung-won, who was eliminated in the first round of the primary. Kim Dae-sik, Hong’s campaign secretary-general, mentioned that “they aim to bring Kim Gi-hyeon, Na Kyung-won, and Ju Ho-young on board,” adding, “In Na’s case, since contacting her at a funeral yesterday was inappropriate, the candidate will likely reach out personally today or tomorrow.”
