The National Association of Persons with Disabilities in Korea staged a subway protest during the morning commute for the first time in over a year, causing chaos on the platform.

The National Solidarity for the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (Jeon Jang Yeon) resumed its subway boarding protests this morning (21st) after more than a year.

Jeon Jang Yeon conducted the 62nd “Subway Boarding Protest for Morning Commute” at 8 a.m. today at Hyehwa Station on Seoul Subway Line 4, heading towards Dongdaemun.

Although Seoul Metro employees blocked their path, some participants attempted to board at 8:45 a.m., causing chaos on the platform.

Participants repeatedly shouted “Let us through” while struggling with the police and Seoul Metro employees.

During this process, the subway train that was about to leave the platform could not close its doors properly, delaying its departure.

This marks Jeon Jang Yeon’s first subway boarding protest for the morning commute since April 8th of last year.

For the past year, Jeon Jang Yeon had stopped their subway boarding protests and engaged in die-in protests, lying down on platforms to call on the National Assembly to pass disability rights legislation. However, as their demands have not been met, they have resumed the boarding protests.
