Blackpink’s Lisa considered a background character in a drama? “It’s like using Lady Gaga as an extra,” faces criticism.

Lisa of BLACKPINK, the K-pop superstar group member, drew attention in the recently concluded season 3 of the American HBO drama “The White Lotus.” However, throughout the airing, there was criticism that Lisa’s screen time and role were excessively limited compared to expectations, with some English-speaking media describing it as “the greatest waste of talent.”

The drama “The White Lotus” tells the story of a week at the luxurious White Lotus hotel on a Hawaiian beach and has a large global fanbase. Season 3 was released in Korea via Coupang Play, and the viewership for the final 8th episode reached 6.2 million, a record high.

Lisa portrayed the charming resort employee ‘Muk,’ naturally showcasing her talent in English and Thai, but unfortunately, her role did not extend beyond that.

The UK’s ‘Guardian’ criticized Lisa, saying there was “almost laughably little for her to do” and compared using her to an extra as akin to hiring Lady Gaga for background roles. Other international media also commented that ‘Muk’ was too one-dimensional to suit an A-list K-pop star.

This project marked Lisa’s first acting endeavor, generating both anticipation and concern. She shared her feelings about being cast in the third season in a February interview with Variety, expressing her delight as a fan of “The White Lotus” and describing how she was so nervous on the first day of filming that she couldn’t remember her lines.

She also described her character, saying, “Muk is similar to me but more ladylike and a flirt. I am more of a tomboy.”

After debuting with BLACKPINK in 2016, Lisa has embarked on a new challenge in her acting career with her role as ‘Muk’ in “The White Lotus” season 3.

BLACKPINK is set to kick off their “BLACKPINK 2025 WORLD TOUR” on July 5 and 6 at the main stadium of Goyang Sports Complex in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, to meet fans worldwide.
