“Even after being released, continued assault leading to divorce lawsuit”… ‘Jing Man’ Hwang Chul-soon’s wife changes children’s names → files additional charges

Hwang Chul-sun, a sports trainer and broadcaster known for his role as “Jingman” on ‘Comedy Big League,’ is currently involved in a divorce lawsuit with his wife. She recently filed a complaint demanding his sincere apology and cessation of defamatory actions.

On the 15th, Shim Gyoo-deok, a lawyer from the law firm representing Hwang’s wife, told the Korea Times, “We visited the Seoul Gwanak Police Station today with the victim (Ji Yeon-ah) to file a complaint against Hwang Chul-sun for injury and violation of the Information and Communications Network Act.”

Regarding the case, Lawyer Shim stated, “This is not merely a celebrity’s personal affair, but an unusual situation where a massive athlete, compared to the average person, failed to amend his violent tendencies even after serving a prison sentence for violence against a weaker individual and blamed the series of events entirely on his wife.”

Furthermore, Lawyer Shim emphasized the need for continuous public and media attention to prevent additional harm to Ji Yeon-ah and other vulnerable individuals and called for Hwang’s sincere apology, cessation of defamatory acts, and a correction report.

Hwang’s wife’s legal representative also claimed that Hwang made false and defamatory remarks about his wife on his social media and YouTube channel, which could result in up to 7 years of imprisonment, 10 years of qualification suspension, or a fine up to 50 million KRW for defamation by publishing false information. Additionally, they mentioned that the severity of the assault against his wife could warrant charges of injury.

Previously, Hwang was sentenced to 9 months in prison on October 16, 2023, for assaulting his ex-girlfriend in an outdoor parking lot in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, and was paroled around January 2025.

Hwang gained recognition as “Jingman” on tvN’s ‘Comedy Big League.’ He married his wife in 2020, and they have two sons. The divorce proceedings are underway.

Lawyer Shim explained that although Hwang committed infidelity, his wife did not want him to become a convict because he is the father of her two children. She supported him with her own lawyer to reach a settlement since Hwang needed to be released to co-parent. However, he continued to be violent post-release, leading to the ongoing divorce suit.

Hwang, on his Instagram, shared a photo of the complaint filed against him, expressing his frustration over accusations of assault, stating that he was falsely implicated through media manipulation and that he hadn’t even been near the alleged assault scene.

On the same platform, Hwang lamented his situation, claiming mismanagement of his assets and slander from his wife despite efforts to reconcile, detailing grievances about personal and family matters.

Regarding changing their children’s names, Lawyer Shim said, “Ji Yeon-ah changed her children’s names to prevent them from facing backlash due to Hwang’s criminal history. She’s concerned this current situation might adversely affect them again.”

Moreover, Shim indicated that Hwang’s online behavior led to further harassment of Ji Yeon-ah on social media, affecting her reputation and causing significant damage to her livelihood. Ji Yeon-ah, on the verge of divorce, resumed her modeling, content creation, and training activities to support herself.

Lawyer Shim also added, “Hwang has only recently been released and is still within 3 years of sentence completion, which may lead to additional penalties as a repeat offender.”
