“Control of Anguk Station Entrance Toward the Constitutional Court [Provided by Yonhap News]”
On the eve of the Constitutional Court’s verdict on the presidential impeachment, scheduled for April 4, major companies like Naver, Kakao, and telecom companies are busy preparing for a surge in traffic.
According to the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry on the 3rd, Naver and Kakao have secured 3 to 10 times the usual traffic capacity for key services such as Naver Cafe, KakaoTalk, and news searches.
A Naver representative stated, “We are strengthening monitoring overall on Naver’s key services like news and the main page,” and added, “We are preparing to ensure services can be used without disruption in anticipation of a spike in traffic.”
Given past instances such as last year’s December 3rd proclamation of martial law by President Yoon Seok-yeol, which led to connection issues on services like Naver Cafe due to a traffic surge, thorough preparations are underway.
Kakao is also establishing a response system for stable service operation to handle any potential traffic spikes.
Anticipating a surge in telecommunications due to large-scale pro and anti-impeachment gatherings at 11 AM on April 4th, the three telecom companies are deploying additional mobile base stations and coordinating with the police to ensure the safety of personnel on site.
SK Telecom announced that they are monitoring protest situations in real-time, concentrating on areas expected to gather large crowds, and have pre-optimized existing equipment.
KT has completed checking the communication network in areas expected to see population concentration and set up an emergency network response system, including an emergency situation room, while LG Uplus continuously monitors traffic and prepares for any unusual situations.
