Eight incidents of national heritage damage have occurred due to nationwide large forest fires.
The National Heritage Administration announced that as of 1 a.m. today (26th), there have been a total of eight cases of national heritage damage due to forest fires across the country.
By type of cultural assets, there are 2 cases of treasures, 1 case of scenic spots, 1 natural monument, and 4 assets designated by cities and provinces.
According to the damage report, Cheongsong Manseru, a type of cultural asset in Gyeongbuk, and two annex buildings of Hadong Dubangjae, a Gyeongbuk cultural heritage resource, were completely burned. It is presumed that the treasures Uiseong Gounsa Yeonsujeon and Gaonlu also burned down.
Additionally, some parts of scenic spot Baegunsan Chiljokryeong, Gyeongnam monument Hadong Duyangri Ginkgo Tree, and natural monument Uljoo Mokdo Evergreen Forest have been partially destroyed.
As of 9 a.m. today (26th), the National Heritage Administration has completed relocating 651 treasures and 17 provincial cultural assets to nearby museums and public institutions, and plans to focus on preparing measures for emergency transfer of national heritage in risk areas.
Meanwhile, the National Heritage Administration issued a ‘serious’ level disaster warning for national heritage at 5:30 p.m. yesterday (25th).
