(Changwon = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Sun-kyung = On the 20th, the Gyeongnam Province announced that the number of subscribers to the “Gyeongnam Pass,” a public transportation cost support project in Gyeongnam, which started in January, has exceeded 190,000 as of the 19th.
Regarding the age distribution of subscribers, those aged 75 and over accounted for 39%, followed by those aged 40 to 74 at 34%, and those aged 19 to 39 at 26%.
The Gyeongnam Pass is a program that reimburses 20% to 100% of the usage fees for nationwide public transportation, such as city buses and subways, if used 15 times or more a month (once or more for those aged 75 and over).
For seniors over 75 and low-income groups, 100% of public transportation costs are reimbursed.
To receive the benefits of the Gyeongnam Pass, one can apply for the card through the card introduction menu on the K-Pass website (https://korea-pass.kr).
Alternatively, one can visit a K-Pass card issuing financial institution (such as Kookmin, Nonghyup, Shinhan, Woori, Hana, or IBK) to get a card issued, then register the card on the K-Pass website or app by signing up for a membership to use it.
Park Sung-joon, Director of the Transportation Construction Bureau, stated, “We expect the Gyeongnam Pass to alleviate the burden of public transportation costs for residents and contribute to the promotion of public transportation usage,” and added, “We will strengthen our promotions so that young people, who have a lower subscription rate than seniors, can also benefit from using public transportation.”
