Gyeongju City is making every effort to prevent the introduction of foot-and-mouth disease… Vaccinations and quarantine measures are being implemented.

(Gyeongju = Yonhap News) Reporter Son Dae-seong = The city of Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, announced on the 19th that it has initiated response measures following the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease at cattle farms in Yeongam and Muan Counties in South Jeolla Province.

The city plans to vaccinate 3,050 households that raise cattle and goats by the end of this month and will strengthen monitoring at its livestock quarantine control room.

Additional personnel will be deployed at two disinfection facilities located in Cheonbuk-myeon and Gyeongju Interchange, and all available quarantine teams and disinfection vehicles will be mobilized for disinfection efforts.

Pig farms must continue vaccinating according to their existing protocols.

Since the occurrence of foot-and-mouth disease in March 2015 at a pig farm in Angang-eup, there have been no further outbreaks in Gyeongju.

Mayor Joo Nak-young stated, “We urge livestock farmers to conduct thorough disinfection and vaccination, and to report promptly if any suspicious livestock are detected.”
