“Seoul Station Stabbing Threat” Post: 10-month Prison Sentence Upheld in the Second Trial for a Man in His 30s

A man in his 30s, who posted a threatening message about committing a stabbing at Seoul Station, has been sentenced to prison again in the second trial. The Seoul Northern District Court’s 3rd Criminal Division, presided over by Judge Oh Byung-hee, sentenced Mr. Bae to 10 months in prison for charges including intimidation on the 20th, overturning the previous ruling.

Mr. Bae had initially been sentenced to 10 months in prison in August of last year in the first trial. The decision to overturn the initial ruling came after the prosecutor amended the indictment, which the court accepted.

The court explained, “In the first trial, the charges related to unspecified multiple victims were dismissed. However, after the prosecutor amended the indictment to include preliminary charges of attempted intimidation regarding the unspecified victims, the court recognized the charges of attempted intimidation as guilty.”

Mr. Bae was brought to trial for posting a message on an online community called “DC Inside” on May 22 last year, stating, “I will commit a stabbing at Seoul Station on the 24th. I will kill 50 random men and women.”
