Prosecutors Request Arrest Warrant for Kim Seong-hoon, Deputy Director of Security Service, for ‘Obstruction of Yoon’s Arrest’ at Western District Court

The prosecution has requested an arrest warrant for Deputy Director Kim Seong-hoon of the Security Service from the Seoul Western District Court. Initially, the prosecution had returned the warrant requested by the police three times. However, they changed their position after the Prosecution’s Warrant Review Committee concluded that it was appropriate to request the warrant.

52 days after being released, Deputy Director Kim Seong-hoon of the Security Service closely guards President Yoon Seok-yeol as he exits the detention center.

After providing protection to the official residence, Kim even attended a dinner with President Yoon.

The police requested an arrest warrant for Deputy Director Kim from the Seoul Western District Prosecutor’s Office three times since January, alleging that he obstructed the execution of an arrest warrant for President Yoon.

This is because Yongsan, where both the official residence and the Presidential Office are located, falls under the jurisdiction of the Seoul Western District Court and Prosecutor’s Office.

“The gun wasn’t deployed at the official residence; it was originally stationed there during peacetime.”

However, the Seoul Western District Prosecutor’s Office repeatedly returned the request, stating that “the charges are not substantiated.”

Ultimately, the police requested the High Prosecutor’s Office to convene a Warrant Review Committee, and on the 6th, the committee concluded that “the warrant request is justified.”

The prosecution, while maintaining that “evidence has been secured and Deputy Director Kim is not fleeing,” respected the decision of the Warrant Review Committee and filed for the warrant with the Seoul Western District Court this time.

The prosecution also requested a warrant for Director Lee Kwang-woo of the Security Headquarters, which was rejected twice before.

The Security Service is reportedly considering requesting a postponement for the warrant review, citing difficulties in attending due to security duties.

If Kim is arrested, the police plan to attempt another search and seizure of the secure phone server located in the Presidential Office.
