Hyundai Motor Group is set to create the largest green space within its ‘Global Business Complex’ (GBC) in the form of an urban forest. On the 19th, Hyundai Motor Group unveiled the design of an amended proposal for the GBC development plan submitted to the Seoul metropolitan government in February.
According to the proposal, the GBC will consist of three towers, each 242 meters high with 54 floors, and two low-rise sections containing exhibition halls, and performance venues. A large green space, open to the public, will be situated in the center of the complex. This open green area is to be developed as an urban forest featuring a cluster of ginkgo trees. It will be the largest green space in any privately developed complex in Korea, covering 14,000 square meters, equivalent to twice the size of a soccer field.
Adjacent to the Gangnam Intermodal Transit Center (GITC) ground plaza, this space will provide citizens with a public area twice the size of Seoul Plaza (13,207 square meters) in the Gangnam urban area, according to Hyundai Motor Group. Additionally, it is expected to serve as a pedestrian hub within the International Exchange Complex District connecting COEX, GITC, GBC, Tancheon, Jamsil MICE Complex, and the Han River.
The main buildings, the tower blocks of the GBC, will be positioned at the rear of the site in a staggered arrangement to ensure visual openness. These towers will incorporate eco-friendly technologies such as renewable energy, as well as future mobility technologies like autonomous driving, robotics, and urban air mobility (UAM).
Hyundai Motor Group stated, “The complex is planned to be a mobility innovation cluster where collaboration between the group and resident companies can yield synergistic effects.”
