A plastic container holding bread is crushed.
On the 16th, a post was uploaded to an online community claiming that ‘Paik’s Coffee’, a franchise under The Born Korea, represented by Baek Jong-won, heated bread in a plastic container using a microwave.
The writer stated, “I asked for the bread to be warmed, but received it distorted along with the plastic,” adding that upon inquiry, the headquarters said that this was their policy.
According to the post, The Born Korea explained, “The material does not release endocrine-disrupting chemicals, so we microwave it as a whole.”
However, the ‘PET’ mark on the product’s container signifies a plastic material that could emit harmful substances or melt when used in a microwave.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety also classifies PET as unsuitable for microwave use.
Additionally, Baek Jong-won is continuously embroiled in controversy due to various issues.
Recently, it was revealed that during a local festival in 2023, The Born Korea sprayed apple juice on meat using a pesticide sprayer, sparking a debate.
