On the 9th (local time), a small aircraft carrying five people crashed in Pennsylvania, USA, according to reports from the AP and others.
The accident occurred around 3 p.m. near Manheim Township, close to Lancaster Airport in southern Pennsylvania. This area is located about 120 kilometers west of Philadelphia, the largest city in Pennsylvania.
Footage shared on social media shows black smoke rising from the wreckage at the crash site, with several parked vehicles engulfed in flames, as reported by the AP.
The aircraft involved in the crash was identified as an “Aircraft Bonanza,” a single-engine light aircraft.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that there were five people on board at the time of the accident, but information regarding fatalities or injuries has not yet been confirmed.
The AP noted that audio from the air traffic control tower includes someone on the plane requesting to land because the aircraft door was open. The controller granted permission to land and instructed to “ascend,” after which someone is heard saying that the aircraft has crashed.
Both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the cause of the accident.
