Chairman of the Toy Hospital: “12 PhDs with a Salary of 0 Won, Pay for Lunch Out of Their Own Pockets.”

Kim Jong-il, the chairman of the “Toy Hospital,” proudly stated that even though there is no salary, he takes responsibility for their lunch expenses. On the 283rd episode of the tvN entertainment program “You Quiz on the Block” (abbreviated as “You Quiz”) aired on the 5th, Kim Jong-il, chairman of the Toy Hospital “Kinice,” and Dr. Won Deok-hee appeared as guests.

Chairman Kim served as a professor in the Department of Metallurgical Engineering at Inha University before retiring. Dr. Won worked as an electrical teacher for 36 years. They explained that many engineering Ph.D. holders with over 30 years of experience are currently working at “Kinice.”

When Yoo Jae-suk asked, “What about the pay or salary?” Won Deok-hee answered, “It’s volunteer service,” causing laughter. Chairman Kim mentioned, “We promised one thing: to cover lunch costs,” and stated, “As the number of people grows, it’s quite a significant amount.”

Cho Se-ho estimated the monthly meal expenses to be about 2.4 million won. When Yoo Jae-suk joked, “Chairman, you must be spending a lot,” Chairman Kim replied, “There are places that have given us prize money because we are now more recognized, so we can provide lunch,” adding humor to the conversation.

Despite being 72 years old, Dr. Won Deok-hee is the youngest at “Kinice,” where the average age of the toy hospital doctors is 78. When asked about his experience as the youngest in the workplace, he shared, “I have to do a lot of chores, like cleaning and various tasks. By 3 p.m., I sometimes experience cramps in my arm,” and recounted a humorous story of getting sick from starting work an hour early to package deliveries.
