Minister Yu In-chon, Ahead of APEC, Reviews Cultural Sector… “Our Culture to the World”

Yoo In-chon, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, gave a speech at a meeting to promote the Hall of Fame for Popular Culture and Arts held at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul on the 25th.

Minister Yoo In-chon will review the progress in the cultural sector for the successful hosting of the ‘2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation’ (APEC) on the 28th.

Starting today, Minister Yoo, along with related organizations such as the APEC Preparation Planning Group of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Cultural Heritage Administration, and the Korea Tourism Organization, will closely examine cultural events and tourism content.

With the APEC Summit to be held in Gyeongju, a center of traditional culture, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism plans to hold special cultural events to promote the excellence of Korean culture. They will host the ‘K-Content Festival’ from September to November and prepare a special exhibition on gold crowns at the Gyeongju National Museum for two months starting in October.

Additionally, various events to set the mood in advance, such as performances featuring Silla traditional culture themes like Hwarang, tomb concerts, and the International Gyeongju History Forum, have been prepared.

Notably, for the first time in APEC, a ‘Cultural High-level Dialogue’ will be established where cultural ministers from various countries will gather to discuss cultural agendas, aiming to promote cooperation and shared growth through regional culture.

Minister Yoo stated, “The role of culture for sustainable development and regional co-prosperity is more important than ever,” and he emphasized that “all related organizations will actively cooperate to make the APEC Summit a festival that combines culture for the leaders, delegations, as well as our citizens.”
