“Mr. A’s ‘Assault Claim’ Ridiculous”… Yang Ik-june Speaks Out Amid Lawsuit Controversy Over ‘Assaulting Junior’ (Summary)

[Sports Chosun Report by Jo Ji-young] Actor Yang Ik-june expressed his grievances regarding the situation where he has been accused of assaulting a junior colleague.

Yang Ik-june is embroiled in allegations of assault against a junior movie staff member, identified as A. According to the charge, it is alleged that Yang hit A with a wad of paper and verbally abused him due to dissatisfaction with A’s tone of voice at a bar he operates in Seongbuk District in December last year. The Seongbuk Police Station has forwarded Yang to the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors’ Office without detention.

At a press conference accompanying the media screening of the suspense thriller film “Confession” held on February 12 at Lotte Cinema in Gwangjin District, Seoul, Yang addressed the controversy. With no official representation, he sat alone during the few days after the accusations, contemplating his stance.

He humorously remarked about the heightened attention: “I’ve never had this much spotlight while working in films.” Yang firmly denied the allegations, stating the accusations made by A to be “baseless” and promised to provide clear facts to the investigating authorities.

Yang shared his frustration about the situation through a prepared statement, reiterating that he initially met A with the intention of offering help. Expressing his dismay, he hinted at a complicated dynamic with A, whom he accused of manipulating many individuals around him. He concluded with a rhetorical question about his fate in this ongoing scenario.

“Confession,” based on a manga by Nobuyuki Fukumoto, features performances by Yang Ik-june and Ikuta Toma and is directed by Nobuhiro Yamashita. The film is scheduled for domestic release on February 19.
