[Singer Song Dae-gwan Passes Away at 78]
(Seoul=News1) Reporter Hwang Mi-hyun = ‘National Trot Singer’ Song Dae-gwan has passed away at the age of 78.
According to News1’s coverage on the 7th, Song Dae-gwan passed away that day. He had been experiencing pain a few days prior and was urgently transferred to the emergency room at Seoul National University Hospital, where he had been receiving inpatient treatment. However, he passed away in the morning. The cause of death was reported as a heart attack.
The funeral will be held at Seoul National University Hospital’s funeral hall.
It is known that Song Dae-gwan had a chronic illness and underwent surgery three times. A close associate told News1, “(Despite his health issues, Song Dae-gwan) had been improving and was exercising diligently. Even while performing, when told ‘don’t overwork yourself,’ he would respond with ‘don’t you know me,’ as he loved the stage dearly,” they said, in tears.
Song Dae-gwan debuted in 1967 with the song ‘Injeongmanyeon Ajeossi.’ He gained immense popularity with his 1975 release ‘Haettulnal,’ and went on to win numerous awards, becoming a legend in the trot music scene. He also had several hit songs, including ‘Jeong Ttaemune,’ ‘Chapyopyo Han Jang,’ ‘Keun Sori Ppeongppeong,’ and ‘Gohyangi Namsjoge Ireotji.’
