A man in his 40s turned himself in after posting a bomb threat comment on Jeon Han-gil’s video, claiming it was “a prank.”

A man has turned himself in to the police after posting a comment suggesting a bomb threat on a YouTube video of a rally against the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol. The incident involved Jeon Han-gil, a Korean history lecturer.

The Gyeonggi Northern Provincial Police Agency’s Cybercrime Investigation Unit 2 announced on the 4th that they have booked a man in his 40s, identified as Mr. A, on charges including intimidation. Mr. A is accused of posting a comment around 11 PM on the 3rd, expressing that he was preparing a homemade bomb on Jeon Han-gil’s YouTube channel ‘Flower-like Jeon Han-gil.’ The video featured Jeon’s speech at a rally held at Busan Station on the 1st, opposing the impeachment of President Yoon.

Mr. A commented, “I sat down and cried at Jeon Han-gil’s call to sweep everything away. I would dedicate my life, which is short if short and long if long, 20 years are,” suggesting he was preparing a bomb. Upon seeing media reports that police were tracking the comment’s author, Mr. A voluntarily called 112 to turn himself in. He reportedly told the police that he interpreted Jeon’s statement as ‘sweeping away the Constitutional Court’ and did not anticipate the situation would escalate from what he intended as a joke. Arrested as a suspect, Mr. A will be questioned by the police.
