SK Telecom announced today (21st) that it is commencing intensive management of mobile communication quality in anticipation of the Lunar New Year holiday this year.
From the day before the holiday on the 24th to the last day on the 30th, a special communication control room will be operated. Approximately 1,500 personnel, including specialists from subsidiaries, affiliates, and partners, will be deployed nationwide to monitor communication services 24 hours a day.
Through cooperation with subsidiaries such as SK Broadband, SK O&S, Home & Service, and affiliates like SK C&C, the company is also strengthening its response system.
A total of about 10,000 personnel will be mobilized over the holiday period.
For this holiday, SKT has completed expanding 5G and LTE base station capacities at major train stations, bus terminals, airports, tourist attractions, accommodations, and busy areas across the country.
On the day of Lunar New Year, the 29th, data traffic is expected to increase by approximately 15% compared to normal times, reaching its peak during the holiday period. SKT has conducted preliminary quality checks and optimization work in anticipation of this.
Additionally, from the 25th to the 30th, SKT will offer video call services for free.
In terms of security, the company will monitor in real-time for DDoS attacks or hacking attempts and plans to perform 24-hour focused analysis of the network to respond immediately should any incidents occur.
Yoon Hyung-sik, head of SKT’s Infrastructure Operation Division, said, “We plan to do our best in managing communication quality so that customers can confidently use communication services during the long Lunar New Year holiday.”
