Incheon City has announced that from January 23 to 27, they will be holding a refund event for Onnuri gift certificates at seven traditional markets to celebrate the Lunar New Year. The event aims to stabilize seafood prices and boost the consumption of domestic seafood, which has been impacted by economic downturns both domestically and internationally.
During the event, consumers who purchase domestic seafood can receive a 30% refund in Onnuri gift certificates. The maximum refund is 20,000 won per person. The event will be held at Ganghwa Pungmul Market in Ganghwa-gun, Incheon Comprehensive Fish Market in Jung-gu, and Soraepogu Traditional Fish Market in Namdong-gu from January 23 to 27, and at Bupyeong Comprehensive Market, Bupyeong Kang Market, Jinheung Comprehensive Market in Bupyeong-gu, Seokbawi Market in Michuhol-gu, and Yonghyeon Market from January 23 to 26.
To receive the refund, consumers must submit their receipts at the refund booth after purchasing domestic seafood at the participating markets. The refund amounts to 20,000 won for purchases of 67,000 won or more, or 10,000 won for purchases between 34,000 won and 67,000 won. The refund is only available at the participating stores, and certain purchases, such as seafood bought at regular restaurants, those purchased with Zero Pay seafood festival mobile vouchers, government-stored items, and imported seafood, are excluded.
To prevent fraudulent refunds, if cases of refunds for imported or non-seafood items, issuing receipts on behalf of non-participating stores, issuing false receipts, or intentionally canceling payments after refunds are detected, the market involved may be restricted from participating in future refund events for 2 to 3 times.
Last year, Incheon City conducted discount events for Onnuri gift certificates, refunding about 3.4 billion won to around 200,000 citizens over eight events. For this year’s Lunar New Year event, a total of 930 million won worth of gift certificates is set to be distributed. Since the gift certificates are given on a first-come, first-served basis, the event might end early. An official from Incheon City expressed hope that citizens will enjoy a happy Lunar New Year with quality and affordable domestic seafood amidst the ongoing economic challenges.
