Lim Jong-seok: “Can the Democratic Party, which only looks to Lee Jae-myung, gain the trust of the people?”

“Politics of Antagonism and Conflict Become a Part of Daily Life, It’s Regrettable”

On September 19 last year, at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Gwangju Seo-gu, during the ‘6th Anniversary of the 9/19 Pyongyang Joint Declaration’ ceremony, Im Jong-seok, the 2018 Inter-Korean Summit Preparation Committee Chair, delivered a speech.

Former Presidential Chief of Staff Im Jong-seok expressed on the 21st his concerns about the Democratic Party, stating, “Can the current Democratic Party, which disregards dialogue and compromise, and remains focused only on Lee Jae-myung, truly gain the trust of the people?”

Im, who served in the Blue House during the Moon Jae-in administration, shared his thoughts on his Facebook account, stating, “It’s time to reflect on ourselves.”

Despite the conservative camp being on the defensive due to the impeachment situation of President Yoon Suk-yeol, recent polls show that the Democratic Party’s approval ratings are being caught up by the ruling party. This has led to interpretations that the hardline response to the political situation might be an issue.

Im further commented, “While we can pride ourselves on being a nation where a bad president can be impeached, arrested, and detained through legal procedures, it is regrettable that politics of antagonism and conflict have become part of our daily life.”

He continued, “It is uncomfortable to see those who neglect principles, prioritize their positions, and are careless with their attitudes and language being applauded by supporters. What is the purpose of selecting harsh and poisonous expressions, and who are they trying to impress?”

Im emphasized, “Why are even those who never acted this way starting to change? It’s not sustainable to rely solely on the opposition’s mistakes.”

He added, “Actions without introspection will eventually come at a cost,” expressing his apprehension.
