**TK New Airport Construction Approved and Accelerated**
In November 2023, a memorandum of understanding was signed, and after a little over a year, the project plan for relocating Daegu Military Airport has been approved by the Ministry of National Defense and officially announced in the government gazette as of January 21.
With the approval, Daegu City plans to move into the full project implementation phase to open the TK New Airport by 2030. This involves launching feasibility studies and basic planning for the relocation complex, as well as conducting environmental impact assessments for the new airport construction.
Additionally, the essential surveys on obstructive structures in the designated new airport area, which were halted due to opposition from some residents, will be rapidly resumed to complete preliminary procedures for compensation. The groundwork investigations for the new military airport site are proceeding without setbacks, and administrative procedures are being expedited to commence construction in the first half of 2026.
The basic plan for the civilian airport, which was delayed due to the location issue of the second cargo terminal, is expected to be concluded soon and announced. Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo stated, “We will expedite the new airport construction project to ensure a new leap forward for Daegu’s next 100 years.”
