Kakao Mobility: “Taxi boarding success rate increases every year… Effect of advanced technology”

Kakao Mobility announced on the 13th that the taxi boarding success rate on the day with the highest annual number of users calling a ride over the past three years has increased each year. Notably, last year, it rose by more than 12 percentage points compared to 2022, showing improvement.

Additionally, the days with the most annual Kakao T taxi call users from 2022 to last year were December 16, December 17, and December 21, respectively, all in the year-end season. All these days were identified as Saturday weekends ahead of Christmas or the Christmas holiday. On December 21 of last year, which was before the Christmas holiday, Kakao T’s taxi call user numbers hit a record high.

The boarding success rates on the days with the highest taxi call users each year were 71.3%, 75.4%, and 83.4%, indicating a consistent upward trend each year. The boarding success rate is the percentage of users who attempted a taxi call and successfully boarded a taxi to complete their journey.

During the year-end season, demand for calling taxis surges due to weather conditions and year-end gatherings. Kakao T seems to have developed stable demand management capabilities through annual improvements.

Kakao Mobility has enhanced its technical capabilities in various aspects to improve the dispatch experience for both users and taxi drivers. By improving map-matching technology based on big data analysis know-how and enhancing dispatch success rates using machine learning techniques, they provided more optimized dispatch connections for both users and taxi drivers.

Furthermore, through a traffic prediction algorithm and real-time location data and traffic information, accurate expected travel time and fare information were provided, increasing the trustworthiness of the information. Efforts have been made to improve the usability of the Kakao T application, including adding features such as calling a taxi on behalf, taxi reservation functions, changing payment cards, and selecting expected boarding times.

Ryu Geung-sun, CEO of Kakao Mobility, stated, “We are striving to create a platform that can provide stable services in any environment through big data analysis and platform technology enhancement,” adding, “We will continue to pursue necessary technological advancements for fast and safe mobility for our users.”
