Police make third request for the appearance of the non-compliant Chief of Security Service… “Appear on the 10th”

Park Jong-jun, the Chief of Presidential Security Service, who blocked the execution of an arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk-yeol, has rejected the police’s second request to appear for questioning. The police have sent a third notice requesting Park to appear by the 10th.

The Special Investigation Team for Martial Law within the National Police Agency had initially asked Chief Park to appear by 10 a.m. today (7th), but Park did not comply. He also did not respond to a previous summons on the 4th.

The Presidential Security Service announced through media today that “(Chief Park) has not yet appointed legal representation, making it difficult to attend,” and added, “We plan to appoint a lawyer today or tomorrow to coordinate the schedule.” Previously, when he did not comply with the first summons, the reason given was that as it was a serious time concerning presidential security duties, he could not be absent.

Lee Kwang-woo, the head of the Security Headquarters, who is also accused of obstructing the arrest warrant execution along with Chief Park, was informed by the police to appear by 2 p.m. today but did not show up.

In response, the police have sent a third summon notice to Chief Park to appear by 10 a.m. on the 10th, and a second notice to Head Lee to appear by 2 p.m. on the same day.

The police have also requested Deputy Kim Sung-hoon and Lee Jin-ha, the head of the Safety and Security Division, to appear by tomorrow (8th).

Park Jong-jun and the three others were booked as suspects by the police on charges of obstructing the execution of a special government official duty after blocking the arrest warrant for President Yoon on the 3rd.
