“Impeachment Opposition” Choi Jun-yong, Restaurant Rating Attack → Debate: “Mindless Amoebas”

Actor Choi Joon-yong has publicly expressed his opposition to the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol and support for martial law, telling critics not to comment on his social media, saying, “Don’t come to my feed and talk nonsense.” On January 6, Choi posted on his SNS, “Don’t come to my feed and talk nonsense… Just don’t come… You mindless amoebas… Unfollow me on social media… I don’t know you… Do you get it?”

On January 4, Choi participated in the ‘National Rally Against the Impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol’ near Donghwa Duty Free Shop in Jongno-gu, Seoul, where he gave a public speech. He remarked on the abrupt announcement of martial law in December the previous year and mentioned his surprise that it ended within hours, expressing some disappointment at its swift conclusion.

Choi further commented on anti-government sentiments he perceives, mentioning “anti-state forces” appearing and getting involved with protests against President Yoon. He criticized those carrying signs reading “Impeach Yoon Suk-yeol for Sedition,” questioning why members of the Chinese Communist Party were, in his view, meddling in South Korea’s affairs, and stated skepticism about the lack of espionage claims involving Democratic Party members while mentioning espionage cases within the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions.

Moreover, Choi voiced his irritation at the ongoing protests without permits, condemning such actions, and suggested if people dislike South Korea, they should leave for North Korea. He encouraged support for President Yoon, whom he credited with awakening the public.

Choi has been a public supporter of Yoon Suk-yeol since the 2022 presidential election and attended Yoon’s inauguration, along with other supporters like Kim Heung-gook and Dokgo Young-jae. Following his outspoken stance against impeachment, reports have surfaced that his restaurant received a barrage of negative ratings.
