Hyundai Motor Group 2025 New Year Assembly
Held at Hyundai Motorstudio Goyang
Euisun Chung emphasizes innovation and crisis-overcoming DNA
Euisun Chung, Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, emphasized at the New Year assembly for the Hyundai Motor Group, stating, “We need not be intimidated by the uncertainties we face,” and “We must not overlook innovation by adopting a defensive stance.”
Chairman Chung emphasized this during the Hyundai Motor Group’s 2025 New Year assembly, held at Hyundai Motorstudio Goyang in Gyeonggi-do on the 6th. The assembly, initially planned for January 3rd, was postponed to this day in consideration of the national mourning period due to the Muan Jeju Air accident.
The New Year assembly was attended by individuals such as Chairman Chung, Jose Munoz, who was appointed as Hyundai Motor Group’s first foreign CEO, Vice Chairman Chang Jae-hoon, and Kia President Song Ho-seong. In his New Year message, Chairman Chung emphasized perspectives and attitudes to confront crises and highlighted the “crisis-overcoming DNA.”
Chairman Chung stated, “There is no need to be intimidated by the challenges and uncertainties in front of us,” and added, “Without crises, we may become complacent with optimism, which can be more dangerous to us than any external crisis. In that sense, external stimuli can actually help us.”
He continued, “We have no leisure to optimistically expect that this year will be as successful as last year, and merely enduring is not a good strategy,” adding, “We must also be wary of falling into pessimism due to the challenges we will face. When intimidated by a crisis, we only think of preserving what we have.”
Furthermore, he stated, “We have always faced crises, overcome them splendidly, and become stronger afterward. For ‘predictable challenges,’ we must prepare meticulously as we have done before, to create future opportunities.”
Chairman Chung also mentioned, “To respond to unexpected crises, we must have flexible and open internal processes and organizational culture that draw out objective analysis and comprehensive responses, foster unity toward set goals, and maintain continuous effort,” adding, “Based on such fundamentals, we can respond to unforeseen crises.”
Regarding the appointment of the first foreign CEO this year, he explained that it is an “expression of our will for innovation.” He added, “Regardless of nationality, gender, education, or tenure, only competent individuals can become leaders, and we will create an environment where creative and passionate people can fully unleash their capabilities.”
Chairman Chung urged that “the firm will for innovation must boldly extend beyond the organization to the outside,” and stated, “We must lead the changes in industrial paradigms and technological advancements, and boldly invest in key areas, while strategically cooperating with competitors if necessary.”
