The approval rating for the People Power Party is at 34.4%, recovering to its level before the state of emergency was declared [Realmeter].

In the recent survey released by Realmeter on the 6th, the People Power Party’s approval rating stood at 34.5%, while the Democratic Party’s was at 45.2%. The survey, conducted at the request of the Energy Economics Newspaper with 1,001 adults nationwide on the 2nd to 3rd of January (with a confidence level of 95% and a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points), showed a 3.8 percentage point increase for the People Power Party from the previous week and a 0.6 percentage point decrease for the Democratic Party. Realmeter noted that the Democratic Party’s support has declined for three consecutive weeks, whereas the People Power Party’s support has increased for three consecutive weeks, narrowing the gap between the two parties to 10.8 percentage points, continuing to stay outside the margin of error (±3.1 percentage points) for 15 weeks.

The 34.5% approval rating for the People Power Party is at a level prior to when President Yoon Suk-yeol declared martial law in the first week of January. The approval rating had fallen to 25.7% in the second week of December after the martial law incident from 32.3% in the fourth week of November.

Regionally, the People Power Party’s support increased across most areas except for Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongsangnam-do (Bu-Ul-Gyeong), where it decreased by 1.4 percentage points. It rose in Seoul (up 8.7 percentage points), Incheon and Gyeonggi (up 5.3 percentage points), Daegu and North Gyeongsang (up 3.3 percentage points), and Gwangju and Jeolla (up 1.1 percentage points).

By age group, support increased among most age groups except for those in their 60s and 70s. It rose among those in their 30s (up 16.8 percentage points), 20s (up 11.1 percentage points), 40s (up 4.6 percentage points), and 50s (up 4.2 percentage points), but decreased among those over 70 (down 7.2 percentage points) and in their 60s (down 5.8 percentage points).

By ideological orientation, support increased among moderates (up 5.5 percentage points) and conservatives (up 1.4 percentage points).

Additionally, Joseon Innovation Party had 4.8%, Reform New Party garnered 3.1%, Progressive Party had 1.1%, and other parties had 1.8%. The percentage of the non-partisan undecided group was 9.6%.

Opinions on whether a regime change should occur with the opposition party in the next presidential election were at 58.5%, down 1.9 percentage points from the previous week. The opinion that the People Power Party should extend its rule rose by 2.5 percentage points to 34.8%. Those who were unsure accounted for 6.7%.
