Lee Jae-myung: “Choi Sang-mok, not being restrained by the security service, is a second rebellion.”

Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized Acting President and Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok on the 6th, saying, “It seems that the acting official, responsible for managing the situation, is engaging in acts of disorder rather than fulfilling his duty to maintain order.”

In an emergency assembly of lawmakers held at the National Assembly, Lee stated, “The Security Office is resisting the lawful enforcement of an arrest warrant issued by the court, even resorting to armed force,” adding, “I suspect that the acting official, who should be restraining this, is instead supporting it.” He strongly criticized Acting President Choi for failing to take action against the Presidential Security Office, which blocked the execution of an arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk-yeol on the 3rd.

Lee continued, “Such actions by Acting President Choi ultimately constitute another act of rebellion by seeking personal gain through disorder,” emphasizing, “I think there needs to be a strict accountability for acts of disorder, a second act of rebellion.”

Before the emergency assembly, Lee reportedly urged for strong measures against Acting President Choi during a Supreme Council meeting.

Chief Spokesperson Cho Seung-rae, speaking to reporters at the National Assembly, criticized Acting President Choi for neglecting responsibilities such as recommending a permanent special prosecutor, appointing a constitutional court judge, appointing a Supreme Court justice, and directing responses to the Security Office’s refusal of the arrest warrant. He warned, “If the related procedures are not carried out today, we will file charges.”
