“NVIDIA to Invest 1.4 Trillion Won in AI Companies in 2024, a Tenfold Increase in Two Years”

NVIDIA, an American semiconductor company, has invested over $1 billion in companies including artificial intelligence (AI) startups in 2024, according to a report by the UK daily Financial Times (FT) on the 1st local time.

According to corporate disclosures and DealRoom, a corporate information provider, NVIDIA invested a total of $1 billion in various business transactions, including 50 startup funding rounds and mergers and acquisitions last year. This marks a 15% increase from 2023 and over ten times that of 2022.

While NVIDIA’s number of funding rounds is still less than Google’s, it has surged over the past two years, catching up with Microsoft (MS) and Amazon.

NVIDIA, a leading AI chip company, saw its stock price soar more than 170% last year amid an AI boom.

The Financial Times explained that “NVIDIA, the leading AI chip company, has emerged as a significant sponsor of startups seeking to benefit from the AI technology revolution powered by its chips.”

Recently, NVIDIA made strategic investments in Elon Musk’s xAI alongside competitor AMD and participated in funding rounds for OpenAI, Cohere, Mistral, and perplexity last year.

The number of startup acquisitions has also increased, with the acquisition of Run:ai this year and AI software companies Nebulon, OctoAI, and Brevdev. According to DealRoom, last year’s acquisition scale surpassed that of the previous four years combined.

The investment targets are broad, including medical technology, search engines, gaming, drones, semiconductors, traffic management, logistics, data storage, and humanoid robots.
