Innovation Party: “Considering filing for a constitutional court dissolution of the People Power Party… No statute of limitations on insurrection charges.”

Kim Sun-min, acting head of the Reform Party, spoke at a press conference held at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, on the morning of the 29th. On January 2nd, the Reform Party announced that they are considering requesting a constitutional dissolution trial for the People Power Party, stating that they should be strictly judged once the insurrectionary forces are suppressed and everything is settled.

Kim Bo-hyeop, the chief spokesperson, mentioned to reporters after the top committee meeting that President Yoon Suk-yeol’s actions, including his “absurd messages” on the 1st which incite and plot insurrection, are due to having a “hill to lean on,” referring to the People Power Party.

Kim further explained that charges of insurrection have no statute of limitations, including conspiracy, alignment, and incitement. Therefore, the next government’s Ministry of Justice may file for a constitutional dissolution trial, and they are currently considering the timing.

However, while they criticized Acting President and Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok for exercising vetoes on the special prosecutor law concerning First Lady Kim Keon-hee and for appointing only two out of three constitutional justices, they decided to put the impeachment motion on hold. Kim stated that although rejecting laws passed with overwhelming approval in the National Assembly is grounds for impeachment, there are possibilities for re-legislation or amendment, so they will not pursue immediate action.

During the meeting, the Reform Party also pointed out that President Yoon sent letters to his supporters gathered outside his residence in Hannam-dong on New Year’s Day. Acting Party Head Kim emphasized, “It has been proven again that Yoon Suk-yeol views the world through right-wing YouTubers’ live broadcasts,” urging immediate action to execute a warrant for his arrest and remove him from his residence.

They also called on Acting President Choi to exercise command over the security service, with Kim stating that public officials with significant authority and responsibility who claim neutrality and do nothing in times of national crisis are committing a crime.
