“Squid Game 2 Surpasses Season 1: ‘4.9 Billion Hours Viewed in Four Days'”

Netflix’s original series “Squid Game Season 2” has surpassed its predecessor. In just four days, it garnered nearly 500 million hours of viewing worldwide, making it the most-watched content on Netflix during its debut week.

According to Netflix’s official rankings, “Netflix Top 10,” the total viewership time for Squid Game Season 2 in the fourth week of December (23rd to 29th) was 487.6 million hours. When divided by the total runtime (7 hours and 10 minutes), the number of views equaled 68 million.

Consequently, Squid Game Season 2 topped the rankings among Netflix’s ‘Non-English TV’ content last week. It also ranked first in 92 countries where Netflix is available around the world.

Previously, the record for most views in the first week of release was held by Squid Game Season 1, with 448.73 million hours (September 20-26, 2021), but the sequel has now set a new record. However, the all-time weekly viewing record still belongs to Squid Game Season 1 (571.76 million hours, September 27-October 3, 2021).

Furthermore, in just four days, Squid Game Season 2 has reached 7th place among Netflix’s cumulative non-English TV content. Squid Game Season 1 remains the dominant leader with 265.2 million views, followed by the Spanish drama “Money Heist: Part 4” (106 million views), the French drama “Lupin: Part 1” (99.5 million views), “Money Heist: Part 5” (99.2 million views), “Money Heist: Part 3” (80 million views), and “Lupin: Part 2” (68.4 million views).

The success of Squid Game Season 2 has also revived interest in related content. Released three years and three months ago, Squid Game Season 1 saw a resurgence last week, ranking 3rd among Netflix’s non-English TV content in December (671 million hours, 8.1 million views). This is attributed to viewers revisiting the original before watching the sequel.

Additionally, a Netflix video game based on the Squid Game IP, “Squid Game: Unleashed,” also claimed the top spot in the action game category on app stores in 57 countries.

Meanwhile, the conclusion of the Squid Game series, Season 3, is scheduled to be released this summer.
