Chairman Sohn Kyung-shik of CJ Group: “We must secure super-gap competitiveness to achieve sustainable growth” [New Year’s Address]

In his 2025 New Year’s address, CJ Group Chairman Sohn Kyung-shik ordered all CJ Group subsidiaries to secure a competitive edge and achieve sustainable growth amidst increasing internal and external uncertainties.

Chairman Sohn delivered the “2025 New Year’s Address” through an internal broadcast on the 2nd, stating, “This year, we expect sluggish domestic consumption to continue, alongside rapid changes in the global trade environment and political landscape. Additionally, demographic aging, economic polarization, climate change, and accelerated AI innovation will drive unprecedented complex structural changes,” he said, urging that “CJ Group must secure a competitive edge in each of its business areas to ensure continuous growth.”

Welcoming the New Year, Chairman Sohn warned employees that “companies that repeat existing management practices without thorough preparation for changes will face crises and fall behind.” He then presented two core tasks for achieving growth with competitiveness.

Firstly, he emphasized the need to secure growth drivers through global expansion and to present a global growth vision externally to gain market recognition. He added that, with the world’s growing interest in Korean culture, there are opportunities for global expansion across CJ Group’s business areas, including food, logistics, entertainment, and beauty.

Secondly, he stressed the importance of identifying potential opportunities for growth in each business, stating, “Among the group’s various businesses, there are those with open opportunities or major opportunities on the horizon,” and urged, “Capture and maximize growth opportunities in advance.”

He concluded the address by expressing hope that “this year will be one that regains the group’s growth potential by accelerating challenges towards the global market” and wished that “the foundation for becoming the number one global lifestyle and culture company can be established.”
