On the afternoon of the 1st, police were on guard duty at the entrance of the presidential residence in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. This was in response to the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials announcing that it would execute the arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk-yeol, who is charged with rebellion leadership and abuse of authority, before the validity period ends on the 6th.
The Presidential Security Service stated on the 2nd that they have not considered filing charges against individual police officers executing the arrest warrant issued by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials against President Yoon Suk-yeol.
In a press release, the Security Service mentioned, “The Presidential Security Service performs security duties based solely on lawful procedures according to relevant laws and regulations.”
Some media outlets had earlier reported, citing Security Service officials, “An in-house legal review concluded that executing an illegal warrant and illegal arrest could constitute rebellion,” and “If the Corruption Investigation Office attempts to execute the arrest warrant, we will prevent it and simultaneously file charges against individual police officers through video evidence collection.”
Regarding these reports, the Security Service clarified, “This is entirely false,” and stated, “We have not equipped our personnel with video collection devices, nor have we considered filing charges related to rebellion for warrant execution by investigative agencies.”
They further expressed regret over reports not based on facts and reiterated their commitment to performing security duties according to lawful procedures.
