[Seoul = Newsis] Reporters Han Eun-jin and Jo Ki-yong – Rep. Yoon Sang-hyun of the People Power Party stated on the 26th that there was no strong opposition from committee members in 2022 when he was the chairman of the nomination management committee during the by-election, despite reports suggesting he pushed for the nomination of former lawmaker Kim Young-sun under the premise that “the Changwon area should prioritize women.”
In a meeting with reporters before the general assembly of lawmakers that morning, Rep. Yoon asserted, “Female nomination is one of several criteria,” and claimed, “The article is inaccurate.”
Rep. Yoon emphasized, “Nomination is something that cannot happen if there is strong opposition,” and added, “The claim that someone strongly opposed is completely false.”
He further explained, “Preference for women is applicable in other areas as well. Article 47, Clause 3 or 4 of the Public Official Election Act stipulates that when we nominate candidates, 30% should be women.”
He added, “I always adhere to that regulation a lot.”
