“Oldest Ever” Miss France Winner, Age?…”It’s Not Too Late”

On the 15th (local time), AFP and other foreign news outlets reported that Angelique Angarni-Philopon, a 34-year-old flight attendant from Martinique in the Caribbean, won the title at the ‘2025 Miss France’ finals held on the 14th. This makes her the oldest winner in the history of the French beauty pageant.

The competition previously had an age restriction of 18 to 24 years until 2022 but has since changed the rules to allow women over 24 and married participants. With these changes, Philopon could participate and claim the title of the oldest winner.

In her acceptance speech, she said, “Back in 2011, a 20-year-old young woman won the Miss Martinique pageant,” and added, “Now at 34, I stand here representing all the women who were once told it was ‘too late’ for them.”

The finals featured 30 participants, including doctors and dentists. Contestants showcased themselves in swimsuits and evening gowns, performing to various music genres such as country, 90s hits, salsa, and Mozart.

As the winner of this year’s competition, Philopon will receive a year’s salary, the use of an apartment in Paris, and various gifts from sponsors.

Previously, last year’s Miss France contest stirred controversy when a participant with short hair won. The organizers have since stated that this reflects a victory for diversity over the previously imposed uniform beauty standards.
