Presiding Over the Cabinet Meeting: “Semiconductor Special Act and Other Business Investment-Related Bills Should Be Handled Swiftly”
Second Day of Listening to Briefings at the Presidential Office in the Afternoon
In a cabinet meeting held at the Government Complex Seoul, acting President and Prime Minister Han Deok-soo emphasized the swift allocation of the budget to ensure that next year’s budget can be executed from the first day of the new year. He stated, “The government will concentrate its efforts on recovering the livelihood economy.”
Han continued, “To help our economy regain momentum quickly, I hope that all available resources—including national finances, public institutions, and private investments—will be fully utilized and expended in the first half of next year.”
He also stressed the need for quick implementation of budgets aimed at supporting the socially disadvantaged, relieving the livelihood burdens on ordinary citizens, providing tailored support for small business owners, and fostering high-tech industries for Korea’s future.
Han noted the high level of uncertainty faced by companies as they prepare their investment plans for next year. He urged that consistent and effective policy directions be announced within the year.
Additionally, Han called for active communication with the National Assembly to address companies’ challenges and expedite the processing of legislation directly related to business investments, such as the Semiconductor Special Act, Basic Artificial Intelligence Act, and Power Grid Special Act.
He directed ministers to take full responsibility for their respective reform initiatives and current issues, urging them to actively reach out to support people’s livelihoods and marginalized communities as the year-end approaches.
Han also suggested that public officials perform their duties faithfully while participating in planned year-end gatherings to support local small businesses and self-employed individuals during the holiday season.
The cabinet meeting was attended by senior aides from the presidential office, including Hong Cheol-ho, Chief Political Secretary, Park Chun-seop, Chief Economic Secretary, Jang Sang-yoon, Chief Social Secretary, Kim Tae-hyo, First Deputy Director of the National Security Office, and In Sung-hwan, Second Deputy Director of the National Security Office.
Han began receiving briefings from the presidential office starting with the economic secretary the previous day, and will receive reports from the social, political, and civil affairs chiefs at the Seoul Complex later in the afternoon.
