The Special Investigation Unit of the police conducted a search and seizure at the Ministry of National Defense and the Capital Defense Command, securing a security phone of former Minister Kim Yong-hyun.

[Financial News] The police, investigating the ‘December 3 Martial Law Incident,’ are conducting a search and seizure of the secure phone and server reportedly used by former Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun around the time of the martial law declaration.

The Special Investigation Unit for Martial Law at the National Police Agency, in cooperation with the Ministry of National Defense’s Investigation Headquarters, announced on the 12th that they are conducting search and seizure operations at the Ministry of National Defense and the Capital Defense Command from the afternoon of that day.

The special unit plans to secure former Minister Kim’s call records related to the martial law by obtaining the secure phone from the Ministry of National Defense and the server from the Capital Defense Command. The police applied for a search and seizure warrant at the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office and obtained the warrant from the Seoul Central District Court.

This is the first collaborative investigation since the launch of the joint investigation headquarters, composed of the National Police Agency, the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, and the Ministry of National Defense’s Investigation Headquarters.

Previously, on the 8th, the special unit conducted a search and seizure at Kim’s official residence, office, and home, seizing 18 pieces of evidence including cell phones and laptops. However, they allegedly failed to secure the secure phone used by Kim to discuss security matters such as the martial law, which has sparked controversy.
