Kakao Mobility showcased its future mobility technology to the International Transport Forum (ITF) global delegation from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), as announced on the 12th. This visit was organized as part of the ‘2024 Global Mobility Conference,’ which is co-hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, ITF, Korea Transportation Safety Authority, and the Korean Society of Transportation.
The global transportation and mobility leaders, who visited Korea to attend the conference, expressed their interest in experiencing Korean mobility technology. The delegation included notable figures like Robin Chase, the founder of North America’s largest car-sharing service, Zipcar, and shared mobility company, NUMO, as well as Fariz Aliyev, Head of the Transport Policy Department at the Azerbaijan Ministry of Digital Development and Transportation, and Jonas Jensen, Senior Researcher at the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute.
Jang Sung-wook, head of Kakao Mobility’s Future Mobility Research Institute, provided insights into the vision and real-world applications of future mobility technology, featuring autonomous vehicle displays and demonstrations of the robot service ‘BRING’. The company also showcased its own Mobile Mapping System (MMS) technology used to create HD maps, indoor maps, and unstructured maps with robots and drones, highlighting their digital twin capabilities.
Following the presentation, the ITF global delegation showed a keen interest in Kakao Mobility’s technology vision, asking various questions about its global expansions. Robin Chase expressed, “It was great to get an overview of Korea’s mobility technology during this visit, and I was deeply impressed by the implementation levels of autonomous driving,” she said.
Kakao Mobility stated, “As the development of technologies like autonomous driving progresses rapidly, primarily led by global big tech companies, the continuous international attention on Kakao Mobility’s technology is encouraging. We will continue to strengthen our competitiveness through independent technology development.”
