On this day, at the Supreme Council meeting, Leader Chu apologized, saying, “I deeply apologize to the people as the ruling party leader for causing great shock and concern to the public over the past two days, from the president’s martial law declaration to its lifting,” and expressed his deep regret over the series of events.
Leader Chu commented, “Under the Yoon Suk-yeol government, the 23rd impeachment motion by the large opposition party turned into an impeachment against the president. It is a heartbreaking situation,” warning that “the impeachment against former President Park Geun-hye left a starkly divided Korea and only led to political retribution and investigations into past misconduct. Another impeachment will repeat this historical tragedy.”
He further criticized, “Moreover, without any effort to reach an agreement on the agenda, they intend to unilaterally pass the impeachment of the Auditor General and the head of the Central Prosecutors’ Office in today’s plenary session,” pointing out that “the rampant impeachment push by the Democratic Party will incite national division and conflict, and it poses a threat to the separation of powers, crippling the functions of the Republic of Korea.”
