Chungnam Labor-Management-Civic-Government Council and Citizens’ Coalition for Economic Justice, among others, hold a forum on climate change and carbon neutrality ESG practices.

On the 28th, the Chungnam Labor-Management-Civic Committee, Cheonan Asan Economic Justice, and Korea University of Technology and Education’s ESG Research Institute held the ‘2024 Climate Change and Carbon Neutrality Practice ESG Chungnam Forum’ to discuss the directions for practicing carbon neutrality.

During the forum at the Chungnam Content Business Support Center in Asan, key lectures and discussions took place on the concept of ESG management and practices in the era of climate crisis and carbon neutrality, as well as the flow of ESG management.

Professor Seol Wonsik from Sookmyung Women’s University delivered a lecture on “Why are ESG and Sustainable Management Necessary?” He introduced the background of the emergence of ESG and sustainable management concepts, the necessity and advantages of ESG management, and explored tasks and practical directions.

Professor Ko Kyungil from Baekseok University talked about how SMEs can approach ESG management in the era of climate crisis and carbon neutrality, using cases and challenges faced by small and medium enterprises.

The forum was attended by over 60 individuals, including labor and management representatives from companies in the Chungnam region. The participants agreed on the need to establish an ESG ecosystem that takes into account not only the growth of individual companies but also society and all its members, emphasizing the imperative of practicing carbon neutrality.

Following Chungnam Governor Kim Tae-heum’s carbon neutrality practice pledge in the 8th popular election, Chungnam province declared the nation’s first “Carbon Neutral Economic Special Zone” in October 2022 and has been pursuing initiatives like transitioning to a post-coal hydrogen economy and building a clean industry renovation belt to reduce greenhouse gases.
