[Exclusive] “Just leave five chairs, keep it secret from ADOR” – Why did NewJeans push for a contract termination press conference?
NewJeans held an emergency press conference regarding the termination of their exclusive contract in a location in Seoul on the 28th.
According to multiple insiders, NewJeans expressed their intention to reveal their position via a press conference. While some insiders tried to dissuade the members, the members were determined to speak out as they had nothing to hide.
The press conference was prepared in utmost secrecy, reminiscent of a 007 operation. The members’ requirements were simple: just provide chairs for each of the five members, and keep it secret from ADOR.
In response, insiders began urgently searching for a venue for the press conference on the morning of the 28th. After several challenges, the location was finalized in the late afternoon, and they were able to inform about the press conference three hours prior.
This indicates the strong determination of NewJeans to part ways.
On this day, NewJeans members declared that they would terminate their exclusive contract with ADOR at the stroke of midnight on the 29th.
Minji stated, “We demanded rectification for the violation of the exclusive contract, but received only reluctant statements and perfunctory answers, with none of our demands being met. We’re exhausted by the insincere attitude and feel there’s no genuine intention towards us. We don’t see the need to file for an injunction to suspend the contract. We wish to continue our activities positively with CEO Min Hee-jin.”
Harin added, “We haven’t violated the exclusive contract and have done our best in our activities, so we don’t see any reason to pay a penalty. Rather, we believe ADOR and HYBE are responsible for violating the contract.”
Haein conveyed, “Although we might not be able to use the name ‘NewJeans’ against our will, we have no intention of giving up the name.”
